Essentials of Jazz Improvisation for Strings Summer
Program Description
An interactive class on basic improvisation melodies and rhythms used in jazz violin, viola, and cello improvisation. Explore basic rhythms in various time signatures, focusing on swing tunes and examining improvisations from famous jazz violinists Stephane Grappelli and Regina Carter. Written improvisations will be handed out at each rehearsal. Improvisation experience is not required! All orchestral string players are welcome! Younger students considered on an individual basis
