The program is to ensure the installation of hard-wired smoke detectors in every private residence in Delaware.  Priority is given to homes with disabled children, disabled adults, infirm residents and residents age 62 or older.  A battery-operated smoke detector will be issued to occupants if, due to existing wiring, a hard-wired detector cannot be installed. Individuals can also go to their local fire station for free smoke detector’s and carbon monoxide detectors.  If your local fire station is unknown, call the numbers listed: New Castle County 2307 MacArthur Road New Castle, DE 302-323-5365; 302-323-5366-fax Kent County 1537 Chestnut Grove Road Dover, DE 302-739-4394; 302-739-3696-fax Sussex County 22705 Park Avenue Georgetown, DE 302-856-5298; 302-856-5800-fax
