New Directions Early Head Start (NDEHS) is committed to empowering and supporting pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and their families.The consortium is comprised of multiple agencies including the Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Delaware, and community provider agencies.The NDEHS consortium of agencies represents a collaborative model bringing together the university with a diverse group of non-profit community agencies to provide direct services to 195 children and families in New Castle and Kent Counties.The consortium also works to have an impact on many more families and service providers by way of a capacity building approach in the areas of childcare, disability support, training, and coordination of services. Center Based: Child Care Partnerships. Provides services to children aged six weeks to 36 months of age. The centers operates 5 days a week year round. Quality childcare experience in an NAEYC accredited or Star Level 4 or 5 center. Monthly home visits offered to families. Home Based: Ninety minute weekly home visits are conducted by Child and Family Specialists. Home visits are designed to build on child and family strengths and to promote parent/child interactions. Families are encouraged to participate in socialization’s occurring throughout the year.
